Cell tower no problem, NEPA?
Dear Editor,
I recently saw on the news on TVJ a group of higglers and other market people demonstrating at the Annotto Bay Market about a cellphone tower which was erected too close to the market,
The vendors were quite rightly concerned about the risk to their health that microwave radiation posed. They are to be commended on their stand.
Earlier this week I went for a stroll in Cross Roads and I looked up There was a cellphone tower at 10 Old Hope Rd, Kingston 5.
This cell tower almost looks into the building that houses the National Environmental and Planinng Agency, the body that monitors the environment.
Yet it would seem that there is no concern about exposing the people who work at NEPA to microwave radiation from a cell tower that is only yards away from NEPA and which looks directly into the NEPA building
Mr Editor, when one thinks that the staff of NEPA comprises lawyers, scientists, environmentalists and other learned people, it would seem that they can all learn a lesson from the vendors at Annotto Bay Market.
