Blessings
Pets
PET lovers and their animals lined up at churches across the world last weekend for the annual blessing of the animals. In churches from the Phillippines to the United States to Canada, cats, dogs, iguanas, snails, ants and even stuffed animals were taken to be blessed.
The services celebrate Saint Francis of Assisi, the 13th century friar known for his love of animals. The blessings honour the animals, as pet owners are reminded of the companionship they provide and the need to show selfless love to God’s creatures.
Here are some highlights from the Phillipines.
