STAR-STUDDED TURNOUT FOR VOGUE’S 90TH ANNIVERSARY BALL
French Vogue celebrated their 90th anniversary with an Eyes Wide Shut-themed masked ball at the Pozzo Di Borgo Hotel in Paris on Thursday, and as expected, it was a star-studded turnout as the who’s who of the fashion industry partied the night away.
The theme coincides with Vogue Paris’ current issue which features Lara Stone on the cover, wearing a Philip Treacy design. Naturally, there were supermodels, fashion designers, Vogue editors and other industry insiders in attendance, but it was the controversial Kate Moss who turned heads with her extreme ‘bed head’ hairstyle.
She wore a black halterneck evening gown, split to the thigh, and was accompanied by boyfriend Jamie Hince, her hair looking as though she was dragged through a hedge backwards, but somehow Kate pulled off the look, and it probably won’t be long before her legion of teenage fans follow suit.
She was joined by her fellow models Tyra Banks and Gisele Bündchen at the lavish affair, and it was definitely a happy birthday for the fashion magazine. Tyra opted for gothic in a silver sequin gown, showing off her DIY skills with a fishnet veil she made, while Gisele was on trend with a lace mask. Cover girl Lara Stone was a red-carpet vision in green with Marie-Antoinette style hair. Vogue’s anniversary cover is a refreshing change, as it seems the age of waiflike models is over – for now.
Lara’s curvy figure and generous proportions are on display, marking a new wave in the industry.
The issue also features plus-size model Crystal Wrenn — who has been the subject of controversy recently for sparking the plus-size debate, as she was featured in high-fashion campaigns including Chanel and Jean Paul Gautier — feasting on sausages, squid and other foods. Editor Carine Roitfeld told the New York Times : “We try to be sophisticated, while a little on the edge all the time. It’s still very audacious. It’s still about beauty. It’s still about excess, but the censoring is bigger than it was 20, 30 or 40 years ago. I think we have less freedom. You cannot smoke, you cannot show arms, you cannot show little girls. It is like walking in high heels on the ice, but we keep trying to do it.”
