Saturday Hustle — October 2
With continuous showers across the island, this week has been rather cold, bleak and… well, wet. Luckily for us Red Stripe Bold and DJ Liquid are heating up the weekend with ‘WET – the moonglow edition’ at the Caymanas Golf Club tonight. The event features DJ Liquid and the ZIP 103 FM team, Coppershot and Renaissance discos, DJ Wayne and a guest DJ – Miami’s hottest sensation, Dutty Dex. Saturday Hustle plays some ‘wet’ tracks in anticipation.
Umbrella — Rihanna
Barbadian reggae-pop princess Rihanna catapulted to superstardom when she released Umbrella as the first single on her third album Good Girl Gone Bad. With catchy lyrics, raunchy video and a newly unveiled ‘bad girl’ makeover Rihanna soon had the world standing under her ‘umbrella’.
Rain — SWV
With soothing melodies and a soulful sound, R&B group SWV (Sisters With Voices) released their final track Rain, which is still a favourite of many.
Sometimes it’s soft as a misty rain
That gently touches my soul
It cools the fire that burns in me
And I simply lose control
So just rain down on me
Let your love just fall like raindrops
Rain on me…
Here Comes The Rain Again — The Eurythmics
The hugely successful British pop duo The Eurythmics got the their second top ten hit in the US with this melancholy track, which peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100 in the ’80s. Jamaican reggae artiste turned gospel songstress Chrissy D later added her funky twist with a reggae-infused version of the single.
Everytime It Rains — Ace of Base
Cause everytime it rains, I fall to pieces
So many memories the rain releases
I feel you, I taste you, I cannot forget
Everytime it rains… I get wet.
A popular song in the ’90s, Swedish pop band Ace of Base’s hit single Everytime It Rains features gloomy yet very suggestive lyrics about lost love.
Slippery When Wet — Bon Jovi
Slippery When Wet created quite a stir in the 1980s, and despite having to change their album cover — the first one (pictured here) was rejected by their label as a result of its suggestiveness — it became an instant success and remains Bon Jovi’s biggest album to date. The album transformed the group from a mid-rate band into rock superstars, and boasts some of their most popular songs like You Give Love A Bad Name, Wanted Dead or Alive and Livin’ On A Prayer. Slippery When Wet is considered one of the world’s best, and is featured in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.
