Brazil’s unemployment for July lowest in 8 years
SAO PAULO, Brazil — Brazilian officials say unemployment in Latin America’s biggest nation reached 6.9 per cent in July, the lowest level for the month in at least eight years.
The agency known as IBGE says that unemployment in July 2009 was eight per cent, while it reached seven per cent last month, the lowest so far this year.
The government’s statistics agency says the jobless rate hadn’t been this low in July since 2002, when it began measuring the rate.
Brazilian Labour Minister Carlos Lupi says unemployment is expected to keep falling in the coming months as the economy continues to show strong signs of recovery.
