The ‘King’ unveils new
Burger King Jamaica unveiled its new “20/20” vision for the franchise last Thursday, August 12, 2010 at the flagship restaurant at 6 North Odeon Avenue, Half-Way-Tree. The group hosted a media briefing dubbed “The King’s New Home” at the location, where the reimaging plans undertaken at the location, to be implemented in the restaurants islandwide by 2015, were discussed.
The flagship restaurant was recently redesigned with a post-modern/contemporary décor in an effort to add currency to the casual dining experience, and now boasts free wireless Internet access and flat-screen televisions from FLOW.
Burger King has also expanded its menu options to now include Ham & Bacon Breakfast Platters, a BBQ Chicken Wings Combo and new “indulgent products” — the BK Storm, Soft-Serve Ice Cream Cone and Vanilla Sundaes. Speaking at the “20/20” launch, Burger King’s Vice-Chairman Richard Lake said: “We’re the leaders in burgers, have been from ever since, but what some people don’t know is that we also have more chicken options than any other quick-service restaurant. Our new menu reflects our commitment to our ‘super fans’ in the 15-35 age group and responds to feedback from the customers who have made Burger King number one. We’re also delivering on our promise of the best dining experience possible.”
Operations Manager Donovan Witter, revealed that the franchise is a major supporter of Jamaica’s agricultural industry. At present, the company uses 80 per cent of locally-produced items in the preparation of its meals, and collaborates with various local companies namely, Tru-Juice, Best Dressed Foods and Yummy Bakery. There are several new products to be introduced, as there are a few developments involving farmers from Bull Savannah, St Elizabeth, The University of the West Indies and the Scientific Research Council. Minister of State in the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Michael Stern, who also spoke at the function commended Burger King for its support of the agricultural industry, and outlined the dramatic growth that has been shown in the sector over the last two years. He also said that the sector has seen nearly 50 per cent decrease in the export of several products from Trinidad, and there are plans to implement even more measures to ensure that the trend continues.
Burger King General Manager Valda Ormsby was also among the speakers at the event.
