Oh, it’s summer time… but have fun responsibly!
It is the tranquil wind that takes our breath away. It is the sun that kisses our skin and the calm sea that removes the impurities of stress and strain. It is, by golly, summer! And for TEENs, summer is the much wanted rift in the mundane black and white scheme created behind the walls of school.
Unfortunately, while we fantasise about the bounty created by parties and social events, the time to secure our financial stability often passes, and the Dream Weekends and Temptation Isles slip between our fingers.
TEENage has taken the time to assess the situation and create constructive criticism that will assist in the pursuit of the perfect summer, because we appreciate the fact that summer demands just as much preparation as the school year, and we are prepared to equip you with the tools you need to make summer yours.
The well known summer blues await a small percentage of TEENs who do not realise it is time to take the reins and physically plot their future. Instead, they fall victim to a lack of prioritising and penny pinching. The simple truth is that some TEENs get caught up in the fallacy that parents will always be around to secure their finances while they are living under their roof. The first step is outlining the real priorities, and not necessarily what you want to do but what has to be done.

Summer goes beyond the typical sand, sea, and sun by encapsulating the thrill of parties, social events and random get-togethers with friends. The party landscape of summer reaches its climax with the two major party weekends at the end of July. The beauty about expectation is that it allows for one to have a rough estimate of what one should prepare for and the deadline for such a plan.
TEENage fully suggests the creation of a budget for the spending that is essential for the enjoyment of the perfect summer, covering vitals such accommodation, ticket/band prices, and miscellaneous fees.
Pay attention to the different saving options available in our various banking institutions and capitalising on the ones that guarantee maximum returns. It sure beats the lint acquisition we are guaranteed to get as a result of keeping it under our mattress. We appreciate the fact that it is difficult to save in these times but every mickle mek a muckle.
A summer job is an effective tool in securing financing, but in getting one is easier said than done. Regardless of this obstacle, however, we need to do our best to sell ourselves, to ensure that we are among the few who land one of the few jobs available, by including a nicely done resume and an interesting cover letter.
TEENage strongly advises that summer job earnings be not frittered away solely on amusement and trivialities that we make into priorities. We should not take for granted that when September comes our parents will transform into modern day Houdinis and make the stress and strain of bills disappear. Our parents are fighting a fiscal storm and need our help to quell the tumultuous economic hardships they face.
The umbilical cord has been cut and while it may not be possible to help 100 per cent, an effort goes farther than a mere concern.
