Richards tops LIME Amateur golf tourney
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Teddy Richards finished ahead of the 60 competitors in the LIME Corporate Customer Invitational Amateur Golf Tournament which teed off at the Half Moon Golf Course yesterday.
Richards, who finished on 43 points, won a crystal trophy, a Nike driver and a special edition of BlackBerry Bold cellular phone.
George Watt, who was second on 40 points, collected a crystal trophy, a Rescue club and a BlackBerry Bold cellular phone, while third-placed John Buchanan (39 points) pocketed a crystal trophy, a potter and a BlackBerry Bold phone.
Tournament director Peter Lindo was happy with the turnout of players, despite the fact that 20 of the 80 who registered failed to show on account of the weather forecast.
“We’re very, very happy that the weather held up. We had 60 golfers. Unfortunately, we were expecting 80, but a number of golfers in Kingston saw the weather and thought that it wouldn’t work and didn’t come. But we’re very happy with the turnout. We had a great time and a great tournament,” Lindo noted.
Meanwhile, according to Errol Miller, director of communications at LIME, the tourney brought to a climax a series of events which constituted an outreach programme to endear itself corporate clients in western parts of the island.
“We want to get back in Montego Bay to re-energise our presence in Montego Bay,” Miller told the Sunday Observer.
The series of events got off with a cocktail party at Half Moon Hotel Thursday evening, followed by a dance at the popular Dump Up Beach which was attended by scores of revellers on Friday night, as well as an entertainment event for the western Jamaica LIME staff at the Wexford Hotel Friday.
