My Kingston – Roman Harper
American Football Player – Safety, New Orleans Saints
What is your first impression of Kingston?
I went to college — the University of Alabama — with a couple of track girls who were from Jamaica, but other than that the closest I’ve come to Kingston is listening to Sean Kingston.
What are you loving most about your trip to Kingston so far?
Right now, I’ve been trying to kick back. But while driving in from the airport to the Jamaica Pegasus where I’m staying, I was just enjoying the scenery… quite different from where I’m from in Alabama.
Who has been your inspiration?
My parents Ronald and Princess Harper, who are my role models, because they taught me to always do what’s right. They’ve raised five kids and all of us have done well.
What’s the best thing about being an NFL player?
The perks, things the game has allowed me to experience, and being able to compete on Sundays is a thrill like no other.
What are your favourite home comforts?
My PlayStation 3, particularly the game Modern Warfare, and when I’m not playing that, I’m chilling out with my brother in the house.
What would you do if you were mayor (of Kingston) for a day?
A day isn’t really a lot of time to do all I’d want to do for the people here, but I would go to the slums and see how people live and try to encourage as many of them as possible.

I’m a huge Kanye West fan, I really vibe to his music.

I bought some clothes from a store called Metro in Texas. I’m a huge shopaholic, my biggest addiction is shoes.
Which cologne are you currently splashing?
Polo Black and P Diddy’s I Am King.
What’s your preferred beverage?
Red Stripe, I’ve been drinking it since I was in high school.
What’s been your most memorable meal in Kingston?
I had dinner at the Jamaica Pegasus, it was an excellent fillet mignon.
What are your current projects?
Right now, I’m currently on Harper’s Hope 4 1 (For One), which is a programme aimed at providing after-school activities for children. I’m all about trying to show the next generation that it’s possible to follow their dreams and goals… that they can make it.
What upsets you?
Not much, I’m a pretty chill guy, but I really don’t like when people push my buttons and I’m not a morning person, so don’t mess with me too early.
Name the last three places you’ve visited on holiday.
Vegas for Memorial Weekend; Los Angeles where I stayed for two months after the season and Miami, Florida.
Share some of the places in your black book.
I’m always hanging at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama; I hit up the club scene in New Orleans and I frequent the casinos.
What’s your advice to a first-time visitor to Kingston?
I would say just go into the experience with no holds barred and have a good time.
What’s your philosophy?
Try and enjoy every day and never take anything for granted.
