Fraser heads KC Old Boys
MEDICAL practitioner, Dr Ray Fraser is the new president of the Kingston College Old Boys’ Association, following the recent election of directors.
In a statement, the association said that Dr Fraser, a specialist surgeon and senior medical officer at the government’s Type B Annotto Bay Hospital in St Mary, replaced Ken Dacosta, who did not seek reelection to the revamped Board of Directors.
The association’s annual general meeting adopted a resolution, which enabled the merger of the Board of Directors and the executive as one body, which will have a three-year life.
Unlike previously when the Board was headed by a chairman, in Fraser, it will now be directed by a president, who will also function as chairman, with support from five vicepresidents, and other directors.
Those serving as new vice-presidents are chemical engineer and computer specialist Dr Patrick Dallas, who is in charge of business development, fund-raising and event planning; chartered accountant Sixto Coy, finance and development, and journalist HG Helps, who has responsibility for communication and public relations.
Returning vice presidents are sales executive Charley Grant (sports development) and engineer Anthony Allen (school affairs and mentorship).
The Board of Directors also elected senior civil servant Lloyd Bennett as head of the secretariat, financial specialist Eric Heslop as director of finance and development and UWI student Ricardo Gray as director of the scholarship programme and merchandising.
Four new directors were later co-opted to serve. They are UWI student Anthony Lawrence, businessmen Keith Adams and Delano Reynolds, and former athlete, retired army captain and present diplomat Maurice Lawrence.
Jeffrey Foreman will act as recording secretary.
The new administration will focus on a comprehensive fund-raising exercise and will introduce a weekly entertainment activity, called Purple Wednesdays, which will begin soon at Fusion nightclub, formerly Weekendz, along Constant Spring Road in Kingston.
The popular Purple Masters vintage/retro music session will return at Fusion on Sunday, July 25, after an absence of a few years.
The new Board has already met with head of the Anglican Church in Jamaica, Lord Bishop Alfred Reid and Suffragan Bishop of Kingston, Right Robert Thompson, in an effort to forge a stronger working relationship with the Church and the association.
A meeting with old boy and West Indies cricketer Marlon Samuels to express solidarity with him, upon returning from his recent suspension from cricket, has also been held.
