$5-m drain-cleaning exercise starts in western Jamaica
MONTEGO BAY, St James—THE National Works Agency (NWA) has undertaken a $5.5-million drain-cleaning programme across the western region of the island.
According to Janel Ricketts, the NWA’s western region community relations officer, the exercise is being undertaken in an effort to ensure that the drains are able to withstand the flood rains which are normally a feature of this time of year.
The programme, she added, is expected to be completed within the next three weeks.
Among the drains that are being targeted for attention are the Railway drains in St James; drains along the Riley main road in Hanover; the Salt Marsh drain in Trelawny; and drains along the Little London main road in Westmoreland.
The project, Ricketts said, forms part of the NWA’s Flood Damage Mitigation Programme for the island.
