Help the poor
Dear Editor,
As I pass through the urban areas of Jamaica, particularly Kingston and St Andrew, my eyes are confronted by the ever-present signs of poverty and homelessness.
With a rapidly increasing cost of living, it is becoming more and more difficult for sick and unemployed individuals to provide for their basic needs. As a result, some people do not seem to have much choice but to reside on the cold and unsafe streets of Jamaica. As I see this, I wonder what can be done. But I now realise that we all can do something – by contributing towards someone’s meal or providing clothing and whatever we are able to give. Private and public organisations can also come together and construct houses that may accomodate some of our needy brothers and sisters. Finally, both major parties could unite to create a special home for these Jamaicans where they would feel welcome.
