Golf for charity tees off today
THE Kingston Lodge 1933 Annual Golf Tournament tees off today at the Constant Spring Golf Club starting at 7:30 am with part proceeds going to the Reg Keiz school.
Gassan Azan Snr, a part of the organising committee, told the Observer that he expects to at least match the 85 participants from last year.
“We will be looking to have as many this year. This is a charity tournament and the funds raised will go towards assisting the Reg Keiz Basic School,” said Azan Snr.
The format of the tournament will be an 18-hole stableford (7/8 handicap). Stableford is a golf scoring system, rather than counting the total number of strokes taken, as in stroke play, it involves scoring points based on the number of strokes taken at each hole. Unlike traditional scoring methods, where the aim is to have the lowest score, under Stableford rules, the objective is to have the highest score.
The Stableford system was developed by Dr Frank Barney Gorton Stableford to deter golfers from giving up on their round after just one or two bad holes.
There will be Men’s Flight: 0-8, 9-18 and 19-24 and the Women’s Flight 0-12 and 13-24 with prizes for the longest drive and nearest the hole for both men and women.
Entry fee is $3,500 which will be inclusive of lunch.
