As was reported in the press, Bolt was unable to compete at the event because of an injury he sustained a few weeks ago. As it turns out Bolt attended the meet. Many fans expected and we were led to believe that despite his injury he would attend the Grand Prix to acknowledge the thousands of Jamaican fans.
Of course Bolt attended the event but snubbed fans. To add insult to injury, whereas Bolt availed himself for one interview with NBC, no such access was granted to the other ethnic press.
To jog Bolt’s memory…the interview he granted NBC is the same outfit that ignored him during the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
NBC’s actions at the time lead Yahoo Sport writer Chris Chase to ask the question, “Why Is NBC ignoring Usain Bolt?” Chase wrote in his article, “As Michael Phelps’ eighth gold medal dominated television coverage, Internet sites and newspaper headlines in the United States on Saturday night, Bolt’s scintillating 9.69 was buried as a second story. Normally the premiere race of every Games, the men’s 100 final received scant domestic publicity despite it’s historic, thrilling result.”
