Gramps, Una Morgan to perform at CFW Sunday
Morgan Heritage stars Gramps Morgan and his sibling, Una, will both make solo appearances at CFW 2010 on the Sunday night of the event.
While Gramps has long forged a successful solo career, CFW marks the solo debut for Una, who will perform tracks from her new album, including a duet with reggae singer, Ce’cile. It has been a long journey for Una, who hopes that with her new album entitled, Just Me, she can show her evolution in music, life, and spirituality, while continuing to uphold her family’s legacy.
From the gritty streets of Brooklyn NYC to the suburbs of Springfield, Massachusetts, being the product of multiple environments has helped to influence Una’s eclectic musical style. While she remains connected to her roots reggae background, Una has never been afraid to venture in new directions with her sound. Influenced by the different sounds of vocalists, ranging from Grace Jones, Sade, and Jill Scott, to Mary J. Blige, Lauren Hill, Mariah Carey, and Alicia Keys, she describes her sound as “ragga soul,” a mix between reggae, pop, R&B, and hip-hop.
Roy ‘Gramps’ Morgan, one of 17 sons of the legendary Denroy Morgan, began his solo career in 2008. His first official single Wash The Tears, composed, written, and produced by Gramps on his Dada Son Entertainment label, was a mega hit, debuting at eight on Italy’s Top 20 Singles Chart. Gramps subsequently launched of his debut album Two Sides Of My Heart Vol. 1 in 2009. The album topped reggae album charts in several regions including Jamaica, Europe and sections of the US and also received rave reviews from a number of prominent websites and print publications worldwide.
It would also be a prosperous tour year for Gramps who opened for Buju Banton on his Rasta Got Soul tour and later had tour dates with India Arie and John Legend.
The Pulse-produced Caribbean Fashionweek began on Tuesday and will continue to Sunday June 20. The designer collections will be on show at the National Indoor Sports Centre from tomorrow, beginning with the Haiti Art & Fashion benefit where Haitian born Pop star Katia Cadet is set to perform. Johnny Gill is the featured music star on Saturday June 19.
