Japanese fan robbed in Bloemfontein
BLOEMFONTEIN, South Africa (AP) — A Japanese fan returning to his hotel in central Bloemfontein after his team won its first World Cup match was robbed of a camera, polie said yesterday.
No one was hurt in Monday’s incident in the central South African town, police spokesman Sam Makhele said. Makhele said investigations are continuing.
In Johannesburg, a group of Chinese journalists were robbed at gunpoint inside their hotel, police said.
Capt. Leonard Hlathi said authorities have already detained three suspects involved in a pre-dawn theft.
Hlathi said the three journalists and another Chinese national were robbed of money, cell phones and a laptop inside their hotel rooms in Nelspruit, a town northeast of Johannesburg.
There have been several cases of robberies targeting journalists.
