Residents protest killing on Mandela Highway
RESIDENTS of Central Village, St Catherine, this morning protested along the Mandela Highway over what they claimed was the murder of a teen from their community by bus operators just metres away from the Central Village police station on Friday.
The residents claimed that Ryan ‘Bungas’ Bryan, 17, was violently chopped and then pushed to his death by operators of a bus which plies the Spanish Town to downtown Kingston route.
“Just because the youth and him friend a travel on the bus and them fare short them kick them off and use the bus to run over me son,” said a woman who identified herself as the teen’s mother.
Police from the St Andrew South Division are investigating.
“The driver and the conductor were brought in for questioning and released until further notice,” said Sergeant Lynval McGann.
Residents have, however, expressed concern with how the police have been conducting their investigation.
“We believe that is because the bus is owned by a policeman, that is why them covering for them,” said one of the protesters.
