Marc Baptiste for CFW
MARC Baptiste, one of the world’s most celebrated photographers, arrives in Kingston this week as a special guest at Caribbean Fashionweek, scheduled to begin today.
Fashion shows and concerts will be held at the National Indoor Sports Centre Friday, June 18, Saturday, June 19 and Sunday, June 20. Baptiste is regarded as one of the top 10 fashion photographers in the world and has photographed some of the most famous people on the planet, including some of Pulse’s top supermodels.
According to Pulse, “Marc’s presence here will not only be a major honour for CFW, but also for Jamaica. This is particularly important at this time, as we seek to reassure the world that Jamaica, especially Kingston, is a safe, fun and exciting city to visit.”
Baptiste’s client list includes Vanity Fair, Cosmopolitan, Elle, Glamour, Marie Claire, Yoko Ono, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Forrest Whittaker, Erica Badu, Will Farrell, Eva Mendez, Queen Latifa, Common, Heidi Klum, Alicia Keyes, Paris Hilton and Karen Olson. He has worked for almost every major fashion magazine and has shot many of the most celebrated supermodels in the global fashion industry.
Marc Baptiste was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, but left his home country for New York at an early age. His interest in photography, which began in his teenage years, led him to pursue the passion at university. He graduated with a degree in photography, graphic design and advertising.
Marc has exhibited his works in such galleries as Dactyl and Milk in New York, Modernbook in San Francisco and Exposure in London. He has also shot advertising campaigns for such famous brands as Nike, Paris Hilton Perfume, Reebok and Penguin.
However, it was the publishing of a series of books featuring the artistic portrayal of the female body that has brought him critical acclaim. The Nudes series has been a true crowning of his career as an artist and a professional photographer. Beautiful Nudes, Intimate Nudes and Marc Baptiste Nudes showcase unique, at times provocative, portrayals of women. Marc Baptiste’s photographs cleverly and artfully depict the true essence of femininity.
