Tigers roar in Super Cricket League
A positive 83 from Brian Latore guided Kingston Tigers to first innings points over St Ann Cutters in the third round rescheduled Jamaican Super Cricket League match at Sabina Park.
This pushed Kingston to joint first place with defending champions Manchester on 13 points, while St Ann gained one point to move to 10 points and remain in fifth.
Resuming yesterday on 100 for two, Latore and Robert Weir (34) put on 99 for the third wicket to help steer the Tigers to 242, which was five runs more than St Ann’s 237 on Saturday. Latore powered 10 fours and a six, while the hard-hitting Andrew Richardson made 30.
Former youth left-arm orthodox spinner Patrick Harty Jnr took five for 38 from 18 overs and five balls, while Andre Dwyer finished with three for 99 with his left-arm unorthodox.
St Ann middle order batsmen Xavier Marshall, with 63 not out, and Marlon Pinnock, 30 not out, then pushed their second innings total to 163 for three when rain ended play. Gregory Smith also chipped in with 38 against Paul Harrison took two for 43 off 11 overs for Kingston.
In the second tier Senior Cup competition, St Mary beat Hanover by an innings and 15 runs in a rescheduled fourth-round match to claim full six points.
Hanover made 110 in their first innings as Jermaine Chisholm took six wickets for 27 runs. In reply St Mary racked up 234 for seven declared, thanks to Maurice Clarke’s 70 and Aldane Thomas’ 67. Damion Distin took three for 53 for Hanover.
Trailing by 124, Hanover were bundled out for 109 with only Kadian McKenzie (40) providing resistance against Claudius Thompson’s two for four.
