Don’t kick a man when he’s down
Dear Editor,
It is with amazement that I view Mr Edward Seaga’s comment about Mr Golding in the public media. Mr Seaga, like many others, seems to forget that he once “belonged” to Tivoli. Like so many from the Opposition who have have now discovered “moral authority”, how can he now berate the prime minister?
Mr Seaga, what is happening in Tivoli is meted out to hundreds of families across Jamaica daily. Whether it be by gunmen or rogue members of the security forces, why is Tivoli to be handled like a delicate baby?
While I admit that Mr Golding might not have handled the situation in the best way that he could, at least he has done what no other PM has chosen to do. He has acted. Does that make him a bad MP? Is he to be blamed for all rogue members of the security forces or gunmen? Is he to be blamed for the economic recession?
Please do not join the bandwagon of persons trying to score political points at this time when Jamaica requires unity around a common issue. What we need is to encourage the honest members of the security forces to do their job well and professionally. They face a mountain created by many, before and after you.
Let us rally around the prime minister at least for now, since he has acted. We may not love him nor have voted for him, but by God, no one should kick a man while he is down!
