Build a better energy sector
Dear Editor,
It should be clear to us all by now that the only way to move the country forward is to produce. We all must put our shoulders to the wheel for the betterment of the nation. More attention needs to be paid to the drivers or pillars of the economy.
Agriculture is rebounding, we are hopeful about bauxite, tourism is inching forward, but one more area needs to be seriously attended to, and this is the energy sector. We must develop energy production from local resources, otherwise we will always be lagging behind the rest of the world. LNG is really only a temporary solution because
we have not found any of our own natural gas yet, and it will be subject to price movements determined by external variables. If we develop an energy source such as ocean temperature differential, this will open up limitless potential in manufacturing as well as opportunities in fresh water from the sea, sea salt production, salt water fish farming and cold storage and air-conditioning facilities — all as by-products of electricity production.
Bio-diesel production from algae should also be looked at alongside ethanol production to power our motor vehicles. These few projects could provide major employment opportunities and ultimately help in the management of crime.
Time is moving fast and the sooner we get our energy sector streamlined is the sooner the country will begin to move forward.
A Bryan
