Should we cancel this year’s independence celebrations?
Dear Editor,
The grave state of affairs currently taking place in our island is worth our saving. What I would like to ask these luminaries in the society is whose interest do they serve?
Each year, we in the Diaspora are bombarded with flyers, advertisements and calls to come out and support our country during Independence gala celebrations at a prestigious hotel in New York. This year, August 6, 2010, Jamaica will celebrate its 48th birthday.
With the anarchism taking place in our country, maybe we all should ask the big question: what independence are we celebrating? Sovereignty gives people freedom to travel in and around their country.
With residents trapped in these garrisons, we should ask if we should cancel this year’s independence celebrations.
