Why sell out JA abroad?
Dear Editor,
It is with great concern that I view the mushrooming of rumours in Jamaica by some persons in influential positions in Jamaica. The fear- and rumour-mongering are becoming so blatant that even the media themselves seem to have fallen prey to this new fad.
Why have rumours replaced responsible journalism, and the stability of the nation been replaced with the need to score political points? If Jamaica, from all the rumours and speculation, becomes reduced to a smouldering heap of ashes, who is going to benefit?
It is now common knowledge that certain individuals always appear on Jamaican radio stations in the US telling horrifying tales of what is going on in Jamaica, yet when one checks with loved ones at home, that is not the case.
Are these individuals so willing to undermine the stability of Jamaica to become correspondents for international media houses, or to sit on the governing side of Parliament? The headlines that speak about Jamaica’s dilemma in the Caribbean, US, Canada and the UK all show mayhem on every street in Jamaica. In one of the worst ones on TV, the PM looked like he was crying. Are people really willing to sell their homeland for 15 minutes of fame or a dollar?
