Vaz clarifies statement
Dear Editor,
I write to set the record straight with regard to me being quoted as saying that “anyone who knows the PM knows that his love for his party is first and foremost”.
This was said during a press briefing at Vale Royal where the PM was seeking the guidance of the party as to how he should proceed. There were rumours circulating and I came out of the meeting to address some of these issues.
The statement must be understood within the context of the PM seeking the guidance of the officers of the party. My intention was to convey the prime minister’s respect for the opinions and advice of the party, which he has served for so many years.
My statement was not meant in any way, shape or form to communicate a lack of commitment to country on the part of the PM. Let me make it clear that — time and time again – Mr Golding has displayed his preparedness to put both country and party before personal interests.
I hope that this clarification sets the record straight, as understandably the initial report has caused concern.
