EPL: Chelsea crushed 10-man Wigan 8-0 at Stamford Bridge to secure the Premier League title and end Manchester United’s three-year grip on the trophy. The Latics fell behind from the sixth minute when Anelka struck. From then on Chelsea romped on to victory with Drogba claiming a hat-trick, Anelka a brace and one each from Ashley Cole, Salamon Kalou and Frank Lampard. The Red Devils ensured Chelsea did not have it easy as they saw off Stoke at Old Trafford 4-0. Arsenal thrashed Fulham by a similar margin at the Emirates to stave off Tottenham’s charge for third spot who went down 2-4 to Burnley. Shaun Wright-Phillips rose high to head home City’s equaliser as their game with West Ham ended 1-1. Kevin Davies and Ivan Klasnic scored both goals for Bolton as they defeated Birmingham 2-1. Wolves rallied back from a goal down to beat Sunderland 2-1 to round off a successful return to the top flight. Blackburn finished in the top half of the League as they defeated Aston Villa 1-0 courtesy of a Richard Dunne own-goal. Diniyar Bilyaletdinov struck late to hand Everton all three points against FA Cup finalists Portsmouth. Liverpool saw their indifferent season come to an end in a goalless draw with Championship-bound Hull City.

La Liga: Real Madrid moved within a point of leaders Barcelona thanks to a 5-1 thumping of Athletic Bilbao. Ronaldo, Higuain, Benzema, Ramos and Marcelo all got on the scoresheet for the Galacticos. Barcelona survived a scare to narrowly edge Sevilla 3-2. The champions raced to a 3-0 lead only for Kanoute and Luis Fabiano to respond for Sevilla but that was all they could muster. Espanyol, Getafe and Valladolid all won by a similar 2-1 margin over Osasuna, Malaga and Racing Santander respectively. Riki struck in the 68th minute to end Deportivo’s torrid run as they dented Mallorca’s Champions League push 1-0. Villarreal kept alive their European ambitions with a comfortable 2-0 win over Valencia. Sporting Gijon secured Primera survival as they drew 1-1 with a second-string Atletico Madrid side. Juan Francisco Martinez netted a stoppage-time equaliser to keep Tenerife’s slim chance of survival afloat with a 2-2 draw with Almeria. Xerez edged Zaragoza 3-2 in an exciting encounter to ensure that relegation spots are decided on the final day.
Roma still in it
Serie A: Two late goals from captain Francesco Totti propelled Roma to a 2-1 victory over Cagliari and ensure the Serie A title will be decided on the final day. Inter Milan edged a seven-goal thriller with Chievo to maintain their one-point lead atop the table. Sampdoria has one foot in next season’s UEFA Champions league after drawing 1-1 with fellow fourth spot rivals Palermo. Bologna and Catania played to a 1-1 draw securing their Serie A survival for another season. Napoli condemned Atalanta to relegation with a 2-0 win thanks to a Fabio Quagliarella brace. Genoa had a narrow 1-0 victory over AC Milan while Bari and Udinese played out to an exciting 3-3 draw. Parma heaped more misery on Juventus’ head defeating them 3-2 in Turin. Siena took an early lead against Fiorentina but could not hold and had to settle for a 1-1 draw. Livorno went down 2-1 at home to Lazio to remain firmly rooted at the foot of Serie A.

Bundesliga: Bayern Munich celebrated their 22nd Bundesliga title with a 3-1 victory over relegated Hertha Berlin. Arjen Robben struck a brace to hand the Bavarians the title. Wolfsburg ended their disappointing defence with a 3-1 win over Frankfurt. Nuremburg edged Cologne 1-0 and the Schalke against Mainz game ended 0-0. Games involving Stuttgart v Hoffenheim, M’gladbach against Leverkusen and Bremen up against Hamburg all ended 1-1. Freiburg had an easy 3-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund while Hannover ran out 3-0 winners over Bochum.
