Will the violence end?
Dear Editor,
As the bodies pile up from the seeming epidemic of murder and viciousness that has gripped our island, we wonder when it will ever end. The latest victim was a
five-year-old girl who was a threat to no one. I look back over the years and remember a time when a murder would horrify us and capture our attention for weeks on end. Those were rare occurrences, and so horrible that they would deter others from even thinking of committing such acts.
Now our collective nervous system seems to have built up a serious tolerance for such acts of depravity, and some of us no longer regard rape, violence, beatings, torture and murder as out of the ordinary.
Those of us with a little sensibility left wonder how we got this way. Will the violent ones among us ever get tired and quit?
