Bad approach by teachers
Dear Editor,
Knowledge is made more accessible with the advent of computers. Planning, expression of thoughts and ideas are also made easier with them. Unfortunately, our education system is purely knowledge driven.
We see our children with bags full of books. Students of all levels of our education system (including UWI) are made to believe that the acquisition rather than the use of knowledge is important. People brag about how much they know.
We Jamaicans have problems in all spheres of our lives, but rather than getting solutions, all we are getting from our many social scientists are historical perspectives.
If our teachers, lecturers, journalists, policemen, politicians, businessmen, etc, were thinkers and innovators, we would be graduating thinkers and innovators who solve problems. Our education system has failed in more ways than one, and worse, our teachers are not even doing a good job at the approach they have adopted.
