The One Touch Charity
Last Saturday, One Touch Charity, in association with the Knutsford Court Hotel, held their first One Touch Charity Celebrity Fund-raising Concert at the Courtleigh Auditorium in New Kingston.
With the slogan ‘Touch a life today’, One Touch Charity caters to helping Jamaican youths, and this year the Church of God Girls’ Home and a 16-year-old girl from Maxfield Park Children’s Home are their main focus. President Sophronia McKenzie stated in her message at the event: “We help them to obtain an education, maintain a healthy lifestyle, and enhance the realisation of their full potential.”
Although off to a late start, patrons sat patiently knowing that they were in for a night of good fun and entertainment in the name of a worthy cause. The MC for the night was former Comedy Buss winner Rohan Gunter, and after getting the audience in a jovial mood, the night’s performances kicked off.
Young performers The Diamond Squad Dancers, with their brightly coloured costumes, wowed the audience with their dance steps, moving to the beats of songs such as Richie Loops’ My Cup and Javinchi’s Guide Me. They were followed by a stunning performance from Sophia Brown, who got the audience rocking to her hit song I’m In Love With You.
Next to hit the stage was One Touch Charity’s president Sofania McKenzie, who spoke about the inspiration behind the charity’s name, how the organisation was formed and its plans to help the nation’s youths.
After getting all informed, the Acmatic Band gave an energetic performance with hip-hop and alternative fusion music. Young songbird Keida was next to perform, and despite technical difficulties, she was well-received by the audience and was very energetic. Recording artiste Wasp also delivered a great performance, with his popular hits, including Unfair Officer and Cry Fi Dem.
As the show progressed, we were entertained by newcomers, also by well-known artistes such as Jus Ice, Nesbeth and Bugle. The Daseca-affiliated sing-jay gave an excellent performance, singing some of his hits, as well as a medley as he introduced D-Major and the 2006 Digicel Rising Stars winner Chris Martin to the stage. After singing the popular hit Real Friends without Agent Sasco, D-Major left the stage for Chris to take over.
Singing his way into the heart of the ladies — as usual — with songs like Take My Love, his performance was well-received, especially as he walked up the isles to serenade a few ladies. In closing, the One Touch Charity team came to the stage where vice-president Raine Seville gave a vote of thanks to all who came out to support the worthy cause.
