Dismantle the garrisons
Dear Editor,
The NDM is disappointed that the PM’s speech in Parliament on Tuesday failed to mention certain critical issues, including the dismantling of garrisons which contribute to drug and gun running and the negative impact on Jamaica’s image.
It is strange that the main pillar of the MacMillan Crime Plan (done for the present government), which was for the dismantling of the political garrisons, was not even mentioned by Mr Golding who has a garrison constituency
The NDM believes that the present and previous governments both have “crime plans” which seem to be working for their parties’ narrow partisan agendas in strengthening their “garrisons” and sending the rest of the country to hell, through grief and trauma.
The Movement is calling on the Government and Opposition not to strengthen, but rather to start discouraging and dismantling the garrison-style politics which they have been practising for decades.
Without an end to gun-gang-garrison-style politics, no security measures will work, so the Minister of National Security and the PM can save the platitudes.
The Parliament should be rid of all members who have more than a passing acquaintance with gunmen.
