Obra Youth Work Project
THE International Youth Foundation (IYF), in partnership with the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) and the US Agency for International Development (USAID) presents, Obra, a youth work project.
Obra, a two-year initiative for youths at risk, is aimed to build on the IYF’s foundational programmes in order to improve access to services needed to prepare young people for citizenship, work and life. Through investing in the extraordinary potential of young people, the IYF , PSOJ and USAID decided on using Jamaica as the guinea pig country for the project. USAID. IYF programmes are geared towards improving the livelihood of disadvantaged young people through improving access to high-quality, integrated training to increase youth employability and promoting learning and networking.
To that end, there was a workshop at the Knutsford Court Hotel in Kingston from April 12 to April 14 to review the socio-economic challenges that face the Caribbean, Central America and South America. Furthermore, it aided in fostering creative and positive opportunities for youth, through efficient and constructive youth messaging, as well as discussing issues that hinder such. Also, the vision of Obra was put forward so that all could understand, so that the shared meaning among all intelligences would make preparation for action plans for the three sub-regional partnerships easier. In this way, exploring the themes of multi-sectoral partnerships and strategies for success would initiate the manner in which certain assignments would be carried out.
In preparing youth for the world of work as one of the themes indicates, Obra is on-board and TEENage would therefore like to encourage them to continue, as our goal is to also encourage TEENs throughout Jamaica and worldwide, to continue reaching for the stars.
