Lawless Kiids
BESIDES the usual service clubs in school, how often do you hear about a group of TEENs who want to give back to their less fortunate peers?
The Lawless Kiids Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the promotions group Lawless Events. The foundation was created to give teens between the ages of 15 and 19 years, the opportunity to give back to less fortunate teens within their age group and younger.
The Lawless Kiids Foundation is run by a group of 14 intelligent and energetic teens with the aim of serving. “We are seeking to help kids out there to live a better life. A lot of kids our age take a lot of the things in their lives for granted, so we want to let them know that there are a lot of kids out there that don’t even have half the things we enjoy.” stated Annya, secretary of the Lawless Kiids Foundation.
“In essence what we aim do is encourage teens to help each other. We also chose this selection of people because in our opinion, there are very few agencies that are solely focused on the needs of less fortunate teens in Jamaica. The Lawless Kiids Foundation wants to change that and create a trend, encouraging more corporate entities to get involved and follow suit.” explained CEO of Lawless Events, Marvin Lawrence.
The foundation, while managed by its young members, is closely supervised by Lawless Events. “While the foundation was designed to make a difference in the lives of less fortunate teens, we also want to develop the young minds and abilities of the members of the foundation.” commented Sherilla Gordon, PR executive for Lawless Events.
Although the group is a combination of teens from various homes and schools, the structure and passion for the cause helps to glue them together. They balance their time wisely and ensure that they maintain the family-like relationship that exists between each other. Fabian O’Hara, vice president of Lawless Events stated: “We take their (the Lawless Kiids) academics seriously, so we ensure that no matter what, school gets the time it needs. Nonetheless they are mature and they know how to balance their time and prioritise.”
During the one on one time with members of the team, they proudly listed their plans as to how they will raise funds for the charities they hope to assist. All having an interest in event planning and execution and with Champs on the scene at the time, the group entered the entertainment business with Velocity, a pre-champs social which took place on March 19th at the YMCA. Proceeds from that event at a total of $100,000 went to the YMCA in Kingston, and was handed over by vice-president of Promotions and Executions Bradley Richards, last week.
Look forward to other small projects conducted by the Lawless Kiids, including visits to children’s homes and donations to other groups in need.
