EPL: Wigan produced a remarkable turnaround to come from two goals down in the last 11 minutes to earned a 3-2 triumph at home to Arsenal leaving them in tatters. Arsenal went ahead through Theo Walcott and Mikhail Silvestre but a three-goal blitz which including a wonder-strike from Charles N’Zogbia saw Wigan take all three points. Veteran midfielder Paul Scholes marked the signing of his one-year contract extension with the 149th goal of his United career to keep the title race alive. Scholes header in the third minute of stoppage time handed United a 1-0 victory over fierce rivals Manchester City at Eastlands. The win reduces the gap at the top of the premier League to just one point after Chelsea put in a makeshift performance and were beaten 2-1 by Tottenham. Jermain Defoe and Gareth Bale scored first-half goals to hand Tottenham victory. Everton striker Yakubu had a major impact in a 12-minute substitute appearance scoring one and setting up a last-minute winner for Tim Cahill in the 3-2 win over Blackburn. Bolton and Sunderland had similar 2-1 victories over Stoke and Burnley respectively. Mathew Taylor scored both goals for the Wonderers while Darren Bent with his 23rd of the season got the winner for Sunderland. Birmingham versus Hull and Fulham against Wolves both ended in 0-0 draws. Substitute Nathan Delfouneso scored with his first touch to give Aston Villa a 2-1 win over Portsmouth at Fratton Park.

La Liga: Dani Alves was sent off as Barcelona slipped up in the title race when they drew 0-0 away to city rivals Espanyol. The result leaves them just one point ahead of title rivals Real Madrid who defeated Valencia 2-0 courtesy of strikes from Higuain and Ronaldo. Juan Francisco Martinez bagged a hat-trick as Tenerife got the better of Getafe to secure a vital 3-2 win. Villarreal provisionally claimed fourth spot after defeating an inconsistent Atletico Madrid 2-1 to record their fourth win in five matches. The Yellow Submarines had gone down earlier in mid-week but bounced back thanks to first-half goals from Diego and Godin. Cala scored his third goal in as many games to help Sevilla to a comprehensive 3-0 victory over nine-man Sporting Gijon. Luis Fabiano and Frederic Kanoute weighed in with the other goals. Xerez and Racing Santander shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw that suited neither of the relegation threatened sides. Deportivo against Almeria, Malaga versus Valladolid and Athletic Bilbao facing off against Zaragoza all ended in 0-0 draws.

Serie A: Roma secured a come from behind 2-1 victory over city rivals Lazio courtesy of a Mirko Vucinic brace. However, AC Milan lost 2-1 to Sampdoria to all but end their hopes of lifting the title. Milan opened the scoring in the 20th minute as Borriello put them ahead but that wasn’t enough as 10-men Sampdoria fought back through Cassano and Pazzini. Inter poured more misery on Juventus’ season after a 2-0 victory. Maicon and striker Samuel Eto’o got the goals for Inter. Palermo scored two goals in two minutes to secure a point against Cagliari who where leading 2-0 up until the 88th minute. Atalanta boosted their hopes of Serie A survival and dented Fioentina’s hopes of European qualification with a 2-1 victory. Simone Tiribocchi scored the decisive goal in the 68th minute. Ivan Fatic spared Genoa’s blushes scoring the third in a 3-2 win after being on the pitch for only 30 seconds after his team had squandered a two-goal lead against Parma. Antonio Di Natale scored a stoppage time leveller to salvage a point for Udinese against Bologna. The game ended 1-1. Napoli moved back into the top six after beating Bari 2-1. Simone Vergassola equalised midway through the second half to earn relegation threatened Siena a point in a 2-2 draw at Catania. Chievo secured Serie A survival with a 2-0 victory over Livorno. Sergio Pellissier and Elvis Abbruscato got the goals for Chievo.

Bundesliga: German giants Bayern Munich hammered hapless Hannover 7-0 at the Allianz Arena to remain at the helm of the Bundesliga. The riot started in the 24th minute when Ivica Olic found the back of the net. From then the train never stopped rolling and at the end of the match Robben got a hat-trick and Olic and Thomas Muller both a brace. Zoran Tosic’s brace earned Cologne a 2-0 victory over Bochum. Torsten Frings scored a brace to help lead Werder Bremen to a come from behind 4-2 win over defending champions Wolfsburg. Schalke remained hot on the heals of Bayern Munich with a 3-1 win over Borussia Monchengladbach thanks to an Ivan Rakitic brace. Cacau score twice as Stuttgart beat 10-man Bayer Leverkusen to extend their winning streak to five games and end Leverkusen’s dream of lifting the title. Hamburg’s recent slum continued as they were defeated 1-0 by Mainz. Hertha Berlin kept alive their hopes of survival as they avoided defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt despite taking the lead twice. The game ended 2-2. Borussia Dortmund’s European ambitions were halted as they were held to a 1-1 draw with Hoffenheim. Freiburg defeated Nurnberg 2-1 to go level on points but remain in relegation zone because of goal difference.
