Mona Masters tops in Edwards Mem festival
THE Peter Moses-coached Real Mona Masters won the first renewal of the Orville Edwards Memorial football festival on Easter Monday by defeating Santos Masters 3-1 at the Bell/Chung Oval.
In the curtain-raiser, Santos Super League Team and Central Kingston played to 0-0 draw.
In the feature match, former Tivoli and Arnett Garden Premier League player Andrew Chisholm gave Real Mona the lead in the 10th minute when he volleyed a cross into the roof of the net past a hapless Nyron Prawl in goal.
They doubled the lead in the 20th after Mark Scottland benefited from a cross which goalkeeper Nyrol Prawl should have held, but the ball fell out of his hands for Scottland to oblige.
Santos Masters pulled a goal back in the 35th when Dennis Ellis scored. Real Mona Masters wrapped up the match after Michael Murray scored in the 51th minute.
