Mitsubishi owner anxious to get refund for wrong parts
Dear Claudienne
On Friday March 5, 2010, I bought parts for my Mitsubishi Gallant motor car at Motor Sales on South Camp Road. The cost for the parts was $31,572.24. When I took the parts to the mechanic he said that six of them were the wrong parts so I had to have them exchanged.
When I took them back to Motor Sales on March 9 to have them exchanged I was told that the company was now owned by Stewart’s Auto Sales who were doing stocktaking and I should come back the following week.
When I went back on Monday March 15, I was told that because the ownership of the company had changed I would have to buy the parts anew. I was also given a credit note by Motor Sales for the incorrect parts totalling $19,185.51 and told that I could pick up the cheque within a week. Two days later I got a second credit note from Motor Sales for $1,303.52 for an oil seal.
On March 25, I called Stewart’s at the South Camp Road location and was told that the cheque was being prepared at the refunds section that was now at the Stewart’s Orchard Road office. I was told that I could pick up the cheque on Tuesday March 30. However, when I called the South Camp Road office they said that the cheque was not ready.
I phoned the accounts department at Stewart’s Orchard Road head office and was told that I did not buy the parts from them. She said that they took over Motor Sales on March 12 and would have to check to see where the money had gone.
I used my credit card to buy the parts the second time and am anxious to get a refund.
Please have this matter clarified for me.
MC
Dear MC
There appears to have been a misunderstanding on your part. A spokesman for the Stewart’s Auto Sales Orchard Road head office told Tell Claudienne that the Accounts department told you that because your first payment for the parts did not “come to them” they could not give you a refund.
Your first payment for the parts went to “Issa Transport who were the owners and operators of Motor Sales and not to us,” the Stewart’s spokesman said.
On Tuesday March 30, we spoke to Issa Transport who confirmed that they were in the process of preparing a cheque for you.
The cheque was sent to Stewart’s South Camp Road location and we note that you collected it on Wednesday, March 31.
Good luck.
