Music on the Move
The Easter weekend for many is a time of recreation, so it goes without saying that enjoying music is a part of that equation, whether it’s hitting the beach, spinning at the gym or driving to the country. That said, Thursday Tech gives you a look at the hottest, most value-for-money MP3 players on the market.
Apple iPod Touch, 3G
Definitely king of the hill when it comes to popularity, Apple’s iPod Touch offers a variety of features including web browsing and voice control, to name a few. Its graphics enhancements allow for viewing high quality of video and users may even opt to watch full-length movies since it stores up to 32GB of data.
Apple iPod Nano
The fifth-generation iPod is small and sleek, but is still able to pack a powerful punch with 8GB of storage space. It comes in fun colours, is easy on the eyes and most important, it’s durable with an easy-to-use interface design. This new model has cool new features such as tilt-control, Genius playlist and a video camera.
Zune HD
As Microsoft’s answer to the Apple craze, the Zune HD features a brilliant OLED display, HD Radio tuner and a movie rental service (via the use of the web and a credit card, of course).
SanDisk Sansa Clip+
The SanDisk Sansa Clip+ packs a lot of value into just 4GB. With its pocket-friendly design, dedicated volume controls and built-in belt clip it’s perfect for the techie on the go. It’s easy to use and can stand up there with the big boys since it carries a MicroSD card slot, Rhapsody DNA and voice recorder.
Things to consider when buying an MP3 Player
o Firstly, consider your overall lifestyle against the price. It’s futile to consider an expensive player, like an iPod, if you’re not a techie or someone who will use it for no other reason than playing music. These types of players are far more suited for gamers or those who are interested in watching movies while mobile.
o If you intend to travel a lot, then you need an MP3 player that will enhance your journeys with music yet won’t add undue weight to your carry-on.
o If you lead an active lifestyle (for example, if you’re a construction worker or gym instructor), ensure that you get a durable MP3 player that withstands jerks etc. Try not to get those with mostly glass as they could break easily, but instead choose one made of plastic or metal.
o If you’re into e-Reading or watching movies, then it’s best to consider an MP3 player with a larger screen so as to maximise viewing pleasure.
o If you’re the kind of techie that’s into file hoarding, then try players with larger storage capacities of up 160GB.
