J’can girls beat B’dos in tennis qualifier
JAMAICA’S Girls 14 and Under tennis team of Nia Rose, Shaddae Findley, Michaelann Denton and non-playing captain Lisa Chin beat Barbados 2-1 at the World Junior Tennis 14 & Under North/Central America & Caribbean Regional Qualifying Event in Port of Spain, Trinidad.
At the No 2 singles position Denton defeated Michaela Batson 6-3, 6-1. Following that in the No 1 position, Rose lost 7-6, 7-5 to Melena Lopez.
In the deciding doubles match, Rose and Findley crunched Lopez and Cherise Slocombe, 6-3, 6-2.
The Jamaican girls play hosts Trinidad today, while the boys team of Andrew Bicknell, Simon Levy, Dylan Levy and non-playing captain Peter Berry face the highly-rated Puerto Ricans.
