Georges happy, P/More sad after draw
Dwayne Holmes’ 52nd-minute penalty earned St Georges a 1-1 draw against struggling Portmore United to seal their place in the top six of the DPL at Ferdie Neita Park yesterday.
Ricardo Cousins had put the home team ahead after just 10 minutes, but Holmes was able to salvage a point for the Portland side after Bryan Bayliss brought down Shawn Hunter inside the area five minutes into the second half.
In a lacklustre first period, the home team took the lead through a blunder by goalkeeper Randal Huie, which allowed Cousins to score an easy tap-in from close-range.
However, both teams failed to create anything else for the remainder of the half, until a few minutes before the break when Roen Nelson’s goal-bound strike was parried by Huie.
After the break, Courtney Wilson signalled St Georges’ intentions with a rasping shot that just went wide from the edge of the area, after a good counter-attacking move.
