Champion surge atop Division One
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Champion Youth Club scored their first win and surged to the top of the points tables in Zone B of the Claro St James Football Association’s Division One League on Tuesday.
After starting the competition with three consecutive draws, Champion YC, who were relegated from the Senior League last season, blanked Seaview 4-0 at the UDC field to move to six points — one more than Reggae Youths, who have played three games.
Simon Hunter scored twice in the third and 15th minutes, while Nicon Irvin added another in the 32nd for a 3-0 half-time lead.
Denver Nelson scored in the 90th minute as Champion maintained their unbeaten run.
Only three games were completed as the Reggae Youths-Marl Road game was rained out at half-time with the former leading 1-0, while the other two ended in draws.
Copperwood went to the top of Zone A on eight points after a 2-2 draw with Rosemount at Bickersteth.
Copperwood took the lead after just 17 minutes thanks to an own-goal, while Javier Peak with his fifth goal of the season equalised for Rosemount in the 28th.
Deon Beckford scored in the 48th to restore Copperwood’s lead, but Okeifee Brown scored in the 78th to earn a point for Rosemount, who are one behind Copperwood.
Westgreen and Upsetters also played out a 1-1 draw at Tucker. Chevon Johnson gave Upsetters the lead in the 37th minute, while Andrew Smith scored for Westgreen in the 69th.
