TT players off to Caribbean Pre-Cadet Championships
Four boys and three girls left the island on Saturday for Utuado, Puerto Rico, to represent Jamaica in this year’s Caribbean Region Table Tennis Federation (CRTTF) Pre-Cadet (Under-13) Championships, in which play started on Sunday and ends on Thursday.
The boys team contains three players — Derek Walcott, Simon Ho-on and Peter-John Goldson from recently crowned All-Island Under-16 champions, Campion College and is completed by Jordon Collington of Jamaica College.
The girls team is made up of Janique Lee of Campion College, Matthew-Ann Dawson of New Hope Prep and Larissa McLaughlin of Portmore Missionary Prep.
Coach for the group is Sandra Riettie, assisted by Dr Dwight Walcott (Derek’s father), with Dr Grace Walcott (Derek’s mother) travelling as contingent delegate.
Carolyn Ho-on and Aldrene Lee, mothers of Simon and Janique respectively, also made the trip, to see their children and the other players in action.
