H’View lead, Waterhouse slip up in U-21
WATERHOUSE gave Harbour View sole leadership of the JFF Under-21 League with 66 points while they slipped to second on 64 after drawing 2-2 with Humble Lions at Drewsland on Friday.
Humble Lions, who are ninth, took the lead from a 15th-minute penalty by Anthony Reid and shared the points with a solo effort from Michael Moreland in the 62nd.
This was after Waterhouse equalised and took the lead from the penalty spot from leading goalscorer De’ Andre Brown on the stroke of half-time and in the 61st. Brown took his tally to 16 for the season.
Adrian King had an open goal in front of him in the 38th, but was so sure, he put the ball across the line only to see a defender clearing the ball when it was half-way across the goal line.
Ashani Walker was presented a similar chance in the 85th, also with goalkeeper Chris Lauder off his line, but this time he stroked the ball wide from less than four yards.
Late in the second half Waterhouse were fortunate not to have fallen behind from what appeared to be a punishable infringement in the area.
But even after this, they failed to capitalise on their good fortune which prompted coach Anthony Patrick to declare, “It is heartbreaking to train so hard and then watch your players waste so many chances to score.”
Before Friday’s draw, Waterhouse had the difficult task of scoring some 17 goals while hoping Harbour View dropped points to gain the upper hand.
Harbour View took full advantage of their rivals’ slip-up and tagged Rivoli 3-0 at Prison Oval to go two points clear.
Jahmali Spence scored twice and Andrew Phang once for the east Kingston side, who are seeking their third consecutive crown
At the Edward Seaga Complex, leading scorer Michael Spence netted a 72nd-minute goal to keep Tivoli in the hunt after they defeated Village United 1-0.
Spence was scoring his 26th goal of the season and pushed the west Kington side to 63 points.
Portmore also stayed in the race, one point adrift of Tivoli after Tremaine Stewart netted a hat-trick to bring his tally to 17 in a 3-2 win over Sporting Central at Brancourt.
In the day’s other games, Boys’ Town beat St George’s 3-0, while Arnett Gardens and August Town played to a 1-1 draw.
