Naggo Head, Tru-Juice clash semi-final pots
NAGGO HEAD, St Catherine — The hunt for the three remaining semi-final slots in the South Central Confederation Super League will resume this weekend with the Group A top-of-table clash between parish mates Naggo Head and Tru-Juice at Naggo Head today.
A close encounter is expected between the two St Catherine teams as they are only separated atop the group by one point, with Tru-Juice ahead on 22.
They have also scored identical number of victories (six), with Tru-Juice losing one less (two), drawing one more (four), scoring 16 goals to Naggo Head’s 15, while have both conceded nine times.
All things being equal, Tru-Juice should start the parish derby as favourites after edging Naggo Head 1-0 in the corresponding first-round fixture at Bybrook Oval.
A win for Tru-Juice will see them putting one foot into the last-four, as they would open up a four-point gap at the top with two more rounds to go.
However, being a former champion, Naggo Head must not be taken lightly as they recovered from a slow start of three defeats and one draw in the first round to find themselves in contention for a place in the semi-finals.
Four more games will be played this weekend.
Second-placed Monymusk (17 points) and fourth-placed Bodles (16 points) will meet in another keenly contested game at Bodles on Saturday, as both teams battle for the last semi-final spot from Group B, while Tafari Lions and host Original Hazard at the Lacovia Community Centre in Group A action.
Tomorrow, Newlands — the other team from Group B with a chance of making the last-four — will play Hillstars at Newlands, while Downs tackle relegation favourites Wood Hall at the Downs Community Centre. Game time is 3:00 pm each day.
Meanwhile, the Under-20 league will continue this weekend with five games preceding the Super League fixtures at 1:00 pm.
In Group B today, defending champions Monymusk FC go up against Bodles, while in Group A Tafari Lions host Original Hazard and Naggo Head play Tru-Juice.
In Group A tomorrow, Downs meet Wood Hall, as Newland take on Hillstars in Group B. Meadows FC will be idle this weekend.
