Jammers, Vikings rule at Venus International Volleyball Tourney
International Jammers retained the annual Venus International Women’s Volleyball tournament title on Sunday after scoring a 3-0 victory over Sharpshooters in the final at GC Foster College.
However, Creole lost their men’s title to local team Vikings after going down 1-3 in their decider.
Both champions overcame sides from Trinidad, the Bahamas and the USA, as well as some top local clubs to win the 19th staging of the tournament.
The United States-based Jammers defeated their American counterparts, Sharpshooters, 25-19, 25-23, 25-23, to come away with the female crown.
Vikings turned back Creole 25-23, 25-21, 20-25, 25-17 to deny the US team their second consecutive hold on the men’s trophy.
Vikings defeated UWI 2-1 to book their place in the final, while Creole were 2-0 winners against the Bahamas’ Scotia Defenders in the other semi-final.
In the women’s semis, Jammers stopped MOSA 2-0, while Sharpshooters turned back Trinidad’s Glamogan by the same score.
The tournament started last Friday.
