Excellent
Dear Editor,
This is in response to Anthony Gomes’s column, “Redefining moral values” in the Observer of March 24.
As a proud Jamaican who spent a lot of time as a teenager holding the secrets of several gay, lesbian and bisexual Jamaicans in my heart, I must write to say the following. Shame on our legislation, shame on our international reputation on sexual orientation and gender identity. Bravo to changing times, with many Jamaicans coming out and being supported by those who love them.
Mr Gomes, you did an excellent job, summating the moral vacuum that passes for some kinds of Christian self-righteousness.
But you may as well have written “Fire b’un pon dem!” and done di argument.
Love thy neighbour, eh?
