Dibbs, Foster win Spring Open TT tourney
FORMER national champion Joseph Dibbs and reigning national champion Yvonne Foster won the Men’s and Women’s Open singles titles, respectively, in the Spring Open tournament staged by the Jamaica Table Tennis Association (JTTA) last week-end at UTech.
It was the JTTA’s first tournament for the year and in the final, Dibbs outplayed another former national champion, Christopher Marsh, 11-2, 12-10, 3-11, 11-7, 5-11, 11-6 (4-2), while Foster overpowered Shenique Clare, 14-12, 11-6, 11-5, 11-4 (4-0),in the Women’s final.
To reach the final, Dibbs crushed Emani McPlerson 4-0, while Marsh clipped Kane Watson 4-3. Foster edged Kristen McKenzie 4-3 in one women’s semi-final, and Clare got by Andrea Wadsworth 4-2 in the other.
In other results, Don-Walker Petinaud won the Men’s B, Mark Phillips copped the Men’s C, Alphanso Morris the veterans over-40, Carla Clarke the Women’s B and Kareem Flowers and Ashli Alexander the under-18 singles.
Winners in all events won in the finals as follows:
Men’s B: Don-Walker Petinaud trounced Maurice Salkey 11-5, 11-5, 11-9, 11-8 (4-0); Men’s C: Mark Phillips beat Hopeton Todd 11-7, 11-8, 9-11, 11-6 (3-1); Women’s B: Carla Clarke overpowered Kemesha Francis 11-6, 11-5, 11-5 (3-0); Veterans Over-40: Alphanso Morris crushed Samuel Lamount 11-7, 11-9, 11-2 (3-0).
Boys under-18: Kareem Flowers outplayed Jermaine James 7-11, 12-10, 11-5, 11-7, 11-5 (4-1); Girls under-18: Ashli Alexander pipped Kristen McKenzie 4-3; Boys Under-15: Nicholas Mahfood overwhelmed Jordan Hazle 11-3, 11-6, 11-3 (3-0).
Girls Under-15: Ashli Alexander eased past Kerry-Ann Whyte 11-5, 11-6, 11-4 (3-0); Boys Under13: Simon Ho-On stopped Jordon Collington 16-14, 10-12, 11-8, 15-13 (3-1); Girls under-13: Matthew-Ann Dawson cruised past Ashey Lowe 12-10, 11-5, 13-11 (3-0); Boys Under-10 Pritik Harjani nipped Joseph Rousseau 11-3, 4-11, 11-3, 8-11, 13-11 (3-2); Girls under-10: Rene Peters overpowered Troy-Ann Anderson 11-3, 11-6, 11-2 (3-0).
Boys Doubles: Flowers & James crushed Phillips and Mahfood 13-11, 11-6, 13-11 (3-0); irls Doubles: Alexander and McKenzie edged Rao Cao and Nickell Wauchope 3-2; Mixed Doubles: Flowers and McKenzie trounced Glen-Ross McDonald and Alexander 3-0.
