Pellew Island victory

Dear Editor,

I was astonished but excited to read the March 21 story in the Sunday Observer, “Portland PC says no to controversial Pellew Island development”. Every member of the parish council deserves praise and gratitude from the people of Portland and all Jamaicans.

I cannot recall an instance when a major development project like this was ever rejected. Perhaps Jamaica is now realising that we make no progress by destroying our environment. We still have a long way to go. Developers do not surrender quietly. However, this is a victory for common sense and Jamaica.
