NBA Player Profile – Stephen Curry
Name: Stephen Curry
Team: Golden State Warriors
Position: Point Guard
NBA Statistics: 16.3 (points), 5.5 (assists), 4.2 (rebounds)
Background: With Stephen Curry being the son of college and NBA standout Dell Curry, the league waited anxiously for the continuation of the Curry legacy. As with most top draft players entering the league, Stephen was a high school and collegiate stra, being the all-time leading scorer for both his high school and college basketball teams.
Despite leading his high school team to an undefeated season in his final year, ‘Steph’ was passed up by most top colleges as they believed that his physical structure was not up to par. He eventually chose, in 2007, to attend and represent Davidson College, a team that had not won a n NCAA Tournament game since 1969.
Though making it to the NCAA Tournament in 2007 and 2008, the first NCAA win for Steph and company came against Gonzaga in 2008 as he scored 30 points in the second half alone, helping Davidson to an 82-76 victory. In a career low, he was held scoreless against Loyola for the first and only time in his collegiate career.
While being tipped by some to enter the draft as the number one pick of the NBA, Stephen Curry officially entered the league as the seventh overall pick of the 2009 draft. Already, he has become the talisman of the team and is among the leading candidates for the 2009-2010 NBA Rookie of the Year award. His career highs in scoring and assists thus far are 36 points and 15 assists respectively.
