Fkexxing with: Cameal Davis
MOST readers know Cameal Davis as the first female winner of the Digicel Rising Stars competition. But what has the star been up to since claiming the title in 2008?
Well, TEENage got a chance to flexx with Davis, during an upcoming shoot for the magazine and she told us exactly what has been happening in her life.
She recently released a remake of the Toni Braxton single Hurt Me No More and she has also released a remake of international artiste Kelly Clarkson’s Since You’ve Been Gone after releasing her original single Believe in 2009. She is currently working on an album with The Penthouse Recording Company.
This past head girl of Kingston Technical High School, says Marcia Griffiths, Busy Signal, Tarrus Riley and Romaine Virgo as her favourite artistes. She has also done a collaboration entitled We Can with Agent Sasco, formerly known as Assassin, who also made her favourite artiste list.
This 24-year-old plans to make her debut on the international scene in the next 10 years (she sees herself as the Jamaican Beyoncé). She plans on doing so by not just relying solely on singing, but also opening her options to acting. On the acting front she starred in the Jamaica Musical Theatre Company (JMTC) version of the Broadway and Hollywood hit Dreamgirls last July. Apart from singing and acting Cameal also enjoys cooking.
Cameal Davis knows the importance of a good education, so she plans to pursue her tertiary education by doing Business Studies part-time next academic year at the University of the West Indies. Her first love, music, has prevented her from starting this year.
This bold and enthusiastic young lady’s advice to TEENs aspiring to enter the entertainment industry is to, “Follow your dreams, write your own songs and not to give up if one producer turns you down, there are many others out there willing to give you a listening ear.”
