Dominant Sporting could only manage draw
CLARENDON PARK, Clarendon — Sporting Central Academy continue to find life in the third-round of the Digicel Premier League difficult, as they could only manage a point, despite outplaying Waterhouse at Brancourt yesterday.
The draw gave the Clarendon-based team, who were reduced to ten men in the 84th minute when Gregory Lewis picked up his third red card in the third round for striking an opposing player, their third point of the round and are now looking like a team that will be playing Super League football next season.
They are rooted at the foot of the table on 31 and have not won in their last ten games in all competition.
Waterhouse, like Sporting, have not won in nine games, but are in no danger of relegation and have now inched to 44 points.
Having not won a game since the start of the third round, both teams had it all to play for, but neither could hold their nerves to walk away with maximum three points.
Not even Sporting Central, who are struggling to stave off relegation for the second straight season, could find the net despite holding Waterhouse against the ropes for the entire game.
Hughan Gray and Francois Swaby had no fewer than ten clear-cut chances between them to put the game to rest from the first half, but woeful finishing and good goalkeeping at times, kept the scoresheet clean.
In other results, champions Tivoli Gardens blanked St Georges SC 3-0 at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex, Rivoli United and Portmore United drew 0-0 at the Spanish Town Prison Oval, while it was 2-2 between Arnett Gardens and Village United at the Elliston Wakeland Centre.
