Warranty on stove does not cover corrosion
Dear Claudienne
I bought a four- burner Mabe gas stove from Courts Young Street branch in Spanish Town in 2007 on a 10-month hire purchase plan. Recently while cleaning the stove I noticed that the front right-hand self-lighting ignition had dropped down into the stove. When I examined it I noticed that it was rusting.
On Monday March 1, I went to the Young Street branch of Courts and told its customer service department what had happened. I was told that the stove was still under warranty but that the warranty did not cover corrosion. The customer service agent filled out a form and promised that a technician would be sent to look at the stove. The form she completed included directions to my house. However, up to now no one has come or called. I do not live near the sea.
Kindly look into this matter for me.

Dear PW
The Courts Consumer Charter manager informed Tell Claudienne that she could find no records assigning a technician to visit your house and check the stove. She said that because corrosion was not covered under the extended three-year warranty on your stove, a technician would not have been assigned to do an inspection.
We note that you have now read the warranty and seen that it does not cover corrosion. Nonetheless in the interest of good customer relations the charter manager decided to ask the Young Street branch to send a technician to look at your stove.
We see that the technician visited your home on Friday and looked at the stove and took pictures. A report will be made to the head office for the managers to make a decision.
Good luck.
Dear Claudienne
Could you please help me to get in touch with the right people. When my fiancée was born her mother never registered her. So without a birth certificate she cannot get a passport to join me in Trinidad. We have been sent down many roads where it has cost us a lot of money without much success.
So could you please point us in the right direction so we can receive the necessary documentation.
JB
Dear JB
In regard to your fiancée getting a birth certificate, she must go to the Registrar General’s Department and ask them to do a basis search of the records. The cost of this search is $100. Depending on the outcome of the search, the RGD will advise her what she should do next.
Good luck.
