Volleyball wins for St Jago, Knox College
DEFENDING champion St Jago High joined Muschette from Group D in the last four of the ISSA Boys’ Under-19 volleyball competition following a 3-0 win over Old Harbour High in Spanish Town last Friday.
The Spanish Town team scored a 25-14, 25-13, 25-9 win to move to the top of the group with Muschett on six points, with Old Harbour and Camperdown High without a point and any chance of qualifying.
In the day’s other game, Knox College defeated Campion College 3-0 to set up a play-off against Mannings High on Tuesday for second place from Group C.
Wolmer’s Boys’ booked their spot from the group on Thursday after a 3-0 win over Mannings.
The Heroes’ Circle school stopped their Westmoreland counterparts, 25-21, 25-14, 25-23, to move three points clear atop the standings on six, with only one set of matches to go.
Mannings and Knox are tied on three points and the winner on Tuesday will get the other spot from the group.
Meanwhile, Knox College’s girls booked their spot in the semi-finals from Group B with a 3-2 win over St Jago on Thursday.
The Clarendon school lost the opening set 25-23, but rallied to take a 3-1 lead after winning the second and third sets, 25-21, 25-18.
St Jago levelled the scores with a 25-16 win in the fourth set, but Knox took the final set 15-7 to lead the group with six points — three more than St Jago and Alpha, who were also 3-0 winners (25-18, 25-20, 25-24) over Mannings that day.
Alpha and St Jago will vie for the group’s second spot with their final matches tomorrow.
Alpha will travel to Knox College, while St Jago play away to Mannings School.
